Connect Buddy to ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code

Buddy's MCP server gives your AI agent your Buddy AI Note tasks, daily notes, files and calendar, and a way to hand Buddy the work that needs your email and your voice. There is nothing to install: add one URL to your app and sign in to Buddy in your browser.

Server URL

https://ainote.tech/api/mcp

The first time your app connects, it opens Buddy's sign-in page. Sign in with your Buddy AI Note account and allow access. There is no key to copy.

Claude Code

  1. 1

    Add the server:

claude mcp add --transport http buddy https://ainote.tech/api/mcp
  2. 2
Run /mcp, choose buddy, then authenticate. Your browser opens Buddy's sign-in page.
  3. 3
Back in Claude Code, Buddy's tools are ready. Try asking for your next task.

Claude

  1. 1
Open Customize, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. 2
Name it Buddy AI Note, paste the server URL, and add it.
  3. 3
Connect, then sign in to Buddy in the window that opens.
  4. 4
In a chat, ask Claude to use Buddy. Claude asks before each tool until you allow it.

On the Free plan, Claude allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds it first. See Anthropic's guide.

ChatGPT

  1. 1
Open Settings and find your apps (labeled Apps or Plugins). If you can't add your own there, turn on Developer mode in the advanced settings first.
  2. 2
Create a new app: name it Buddy AI Note, paste the server URL, and choose OAuth.
  3. 3
Sign in to Buddy in the window that opens.
  4. 4
In a chat, ask ChatGPT to use Buddy AI Note. Depending on the app's permissions, it asks before actions that change something.

Adding your own apps depends on your ChatGPT plan and, in a workspace, on your admin. See OpenAI's guide.

Other MCP clients

Any app that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in connects with the URL above. For an app without OAuth, create a key in Buddy under Integrations, API keys and send it as a header:

Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY

Review Buddy's documents in the chat

When Buddy hands back a document, your agent can show it to you with review_file. In ChatGPT and Claude it opens as a card in the conversation.

  1. 1
Read the preview, page by page. It stays watermarked until you approve it.
  2. 2
Press Approve and remove watermark. The document spends its credits once, and the card shows its final text.
  3. 3
Your agent learns you approved it (some apps ask you to send that as a message) and can read the final text from there.

In Claude Code and other apps that don't show cards, your agent gives you the preview link and the page in Buddy where you approve it.

What stays with you

Nothing reaches another person without you. Email drafts wait for you in the app, and events your agent creates have no guests.

Buddy's unapproved documents stay watermarked previews. Your agent can't read their text, and approves one only when you ask.

Reading and editing your tasks, notes, files and calendar costs nothing. Buddy's documents are free to make and redo, and you pay their credits when you approve one. Asking Buddy a question uses credits too, at the same prices as in the app.

Troubleshooting

Buddy's tools say I'm not signed in

Sign in again. In Claude Code, run /mcp and authenticate. In ChatGPT or Claude, disconnect the connector and connect it again.

The preview card doesn't appear

Your app doesn't show MCP Apps cards, or your agent read the file instead. Ask it to show the document with review_file, or open the preview link it gives you.

A tool says I don't have enough credits

Delegating, asking and approving use credits. See plans and credits.
